Across the globe, legislative and cultural efforts to ban what is pejoratively labelled “conversion therapy” continue to suppress therapeutic choice, censor research, and silence voices of those whose experiences challenge dominant sexual and gender identity narratives. In the name of safeguarding, governments and institutions are imposing a one-size-fits-all ideology rooted in essentialism—the belief that sexual orientation and gender identity are innate, fixed, and immutable.
This has profound implications. Individuals who do not identify as LGBT, but experience same-sex attractions or gender-related distress, are increasingly erased from public discourse. Their desire to explore alternative understandings of identity and pursue personal change through ethical, client-led therapy or spiritual care is delegitimised, or even criminalised.
Meanwhile, theological confusion abounds. Some sectors of the Church are embracing identity frameworks that echo secular anthropology—redefining human nature and sexuality through the lens of cultural ideology rather than biblical revelation. The call to transformation is being replaced by mere celibacy, often without a redemptive vision for healing, growth, or maturity.
This year’s conference calls participants to stay the course. It offers a holistic perspective on human sexuality and personal maturity—grounded in emerging research, grounded theology, and lived experience. Together, we’ll explore the connections between identity, attachment, community, and the journey toward wholeness. Whether you are a therapist, pastor, researcher, parent, or someone personally navigating these questions, this is a space for encouragement, equipping, and clarity.
